THE
BEGINNING OF HEISEY CLUB OF CALIFORNIA Contributed by Betty Wanser

In
late 1969 two ladies in Santa Monica, California
formed the National Heisey Collectors Club. They issued their
first newsletter in September, 1969 and called it "The
Heisey Glass Newsletter." By June of 1971, due to financial problems,
this Club ceased to exist. At that time there were over 350 members.
By the end of 1971, former members had been contacted
by a local Newark area group of Heisey collectors
to find out if there was enough interest to found a national organization
in Newark, Ohio, home of the original A.H.
Heisey Company. This group eventually organized and founded
the Heisey Collectors of America and "the rest
is history." Heisey Collectors of America is still going strong
30 years later.
In October, 1973 a small group of eight people
in Southern California met again to organize a study club and by June, 1974
they became Charter Club #13 to the Heisey Collectors
of America.
Our Club has sponsored two successful National Quarterly
Meetings.
We also have two fundraisers during the year,
one in April and one at our December Christmas
meeting. These are fun, social events with our members generously donating
Heiseyglass and the proceeds are presented to HCA
at the annual Heisey Glass Convention in June of each year.
In addition, we are also proud that we have had four of our
members elected to serve on the Board of Directors of HCA.
